To mothers everywhere!

Standard

Today is Mother’s Day.  I just had a wonderful breakfast (from the Delicious Disney Cookbook!) that

a.  I didn’t know about,

b.  I didn’t have to make and

c.  I got to sit in one of the chairs that DOESN’T face the rest of the kitchen.

I hate looking at what needs to be cleaned while I am eating but I ususally sit in one of those chairs so this was a treat!  Breakfast was fab and I got the sweetest card from my kids.  Ok–it was a I card that I made —but it was their message inside that was sweet!  One of my children told me I was a cool mom (she lies but she is sweet!) and the other said that even when we fight, she knows I am just protecting her (she is the more direct, honest one!).  That is the most a mom of 2 almost teens could ask for!!

My mom is the best!  She always makes a big deal of things that should be big deals—like birthdays, and holidays.  She also doesn’t make too big a deal out of things that shouldn’t be made a big deal of….like when I changed my name 4 times in 4 weeks when I was in 3rd grade….or how I transferred to esentially another version of the same college after just one semester!  OK–so maybe I made her crazy but we all survived and now she gets to smile and laugh we kids tell her the trials of rasing our own children!

Well, my mother deserves a BIG thank you!  If you had any idea how difficult it must have been to raise my sister, Pat, you would sign my mother up for sainthood!   Granted, she was given a pass raising my next sister Kathleen—she was the easy, “practically perfect” one.  But then my mother went on to have two more children.  I have already told you a bit about my upbringing….and trust me, I am leaving out the stuff I think is best to leave out!–but then there was my little brother!  While he was generally a good kid (altho he did throw a hammer at the pracitcally perfect one once!),  school was not his favorite thing.  My mother supported and fought for whatever  needs he (and we all) had…..mostly I think so that we would grow up and move out some day but for whatever reason, we are all blessed and lucky to have her have our backs!!

So that said–you would think I got her something REALLY good for Mother’s Day, eh?  Well, the truth is, and this really is the truth, I am taking a lesson from my oldest sister—and taking an” incomplete”!   I have a couple of projects that I am working on and will show you when they are done….but don’t hold your breath!

So while I have quite finished my Mother’s Day gifts for my mom, I did send her this card:

This was a project we made at this month’s club meetings (inspired by Dawn O, I believe).  I tweeked  the card so it was perfect for my Mother’s Day Card.  Those pansies (I think they are pansies) are made with Shimmery White Paper (trust me on this one–this is the paper you need) punched with the RETIRING butterfly punch.   After saturating the punched image with water, you add a little bit of re-inker to it and it will spread forming this unique pattern.  I added a little yellow to the center and it did the same thing.  After the images dry, add the veining with a marker and assemble with a brad—Voila!  Pansies that can handle the heat!

Wishing you and all the mothers in your life a day of happy memories!

Clearly For YOU!

Standard

This past week, I had to make a bunch of thank  you cards to send out.  I wanted to use retiring items and a set that I am so sorry to see retiring.  Here is what I came up with:

Here is another similar card:

This stamp set is called “Clearly for You”.  It is full of versatile little stamps.  So elegant!  Here are all the elements of the set:

There is another stamp set in the Stampin’ Up! catalog  called Summer Solstice that has the following quote:

How lucky I am to have known someone who was so hard to say  goodbye to.

I love that quote!   But while I was stamping with that set today, I was thinking how lucky I was to have used this stamp set even though I hate so see it go..  I know  you are thinking I am a bit dramatic and you may be right…..but really, I love this set.  You still have until the end of May to get yourself “Clearly for You”.  You won’t regret it.

Check out my website here for all the retiring stamp set info.

100 posts!!

Standard

This may NOT be amazing to you but to me–it is reason to celebrate!  This is my 100th post—I know, right?  It seems like just yesterday I didn’t know how to upload a video and today—100 posts!   Ok–truth is, I still don’t know how to upload a video but it is good to have goals, right?!

I know that I have been away for a while. Truth is, I HAVEN’T really been away–I just have been lazy! Christmas came and went and then came and went again with the other family….and then I sat in my pjs for quite a while. Admit it—-if you didn’t actually do the same thing, you wanted to!!

But I am happy to report that I back and have a bunch of new stuff to share with you. As a demonstrator, we are able to order items a month early so that we get a chance to create and play so we are ready to go on day ONE of the release of the NEW Occasions Mini Catalog (January 4th!). If you haven’t received your new Occassions Mini Catalog (which looks like this: ), please let me know and I will get one out to you ASAP!!!!–It is a good one!
Some of my goodies arrived yesterday and I had a chance to play last night…..BUT–before I show you those, I thought you might like to see distressing at it’s finest!

One of my clubs chose to meet in December and requested to learn a bit more about the Distressing Essentials Kit in the Idea Book and Catalog. Well, here is what it looks like:

Distressing Essentials Kit $19.95

In it, there are a number of goodies like a sanding block, emery board and precision files–which are all great for giving paper that worn look— AND getting your nails in shape while crafting!  (Kidding)  There are also 4 different vintage inks and a solid rubber stamp to apply them.   My favorite of all the inks has got to be the Tea Stained.   It is sort of yellowy and old-like (that is why they call it vintage!).   Since I was waiting for my Tea Stain Refill ink to come in, I did a different project using the  Charcoal Vintage Ink.

In the first one here, I used the Finial Press Embossing folder and the with the rubber block and the vintage ink, I rubbed over the whole thing using gentle circular  movements.   this gives this FANTASTIC tin ceiling look.   On the second one, I used the Finial Press again but this time I just took the ink spot and ran it over the top for a “direct to paper ” look.   You can see the difference.  The first one is a lot more subtle…Each good in their own way!  I love you just the way you are!

This one above uses the “Solid rubber stamp Inked with Vinatage ink and gentle swirly motion technique”

Direct to paper technique

The rest of the card is the same—I used the First Edition DSP which is great for distressing.   I then stamped the Triple Layer Flower on Naturals Ivory CS using StazOn Jet Black ink and punched it out.  Couple of dimensionals and –voila!

Ok–tune in again later this week for some upcoming goodies!!! (Wink! Wink!)
