Sometime You Need a Little Cake; Sometime You Need A Lot!

You know it is true!  Sometimes a bite of cake or two will do.  Sometimes you need the whole thing!   What is the best cake you ever ate?   I know this is crazy but the best cake I can recall would have to be from the church fair last year.  It had a tag on it, “Chuck’s Famous Mayonnaise Cake”.

I was very intrigued.  Was Chuck famous but a bad baker?   Was Chuck famous because mayonnaise seems like a weird thing to put into a cake?  OR–was this cake truly that memorable that it earned the “famous”.   The woman at the bake table told me he makes it every year.   One would think if it was bad, he would stop early on.  SO–I bought it.   SO good—yes, I dare say FAMOUS!!!!

I did a little looking around after the fact (got to love Google) and found out that Mayonnaise Cakes became popular during the war…”which war?,” you ask?  Well not anything recent.  NOW people just think mayonnaise is a weird thing to put in a cake.

In any case, there are recipes out there to be had.  Next time you need a cake, I recommend you try one!   Trust me, and Chuck!  You will need more than just a bite or two.

Leave me a comment about your favorite cake and I will send you a card!

Now–I had a little time to do some quick stamping the other day.  I pulled out my Make A Cake Stamp set.   I haven’t used this cute set in a while.  It is perfect for a quick, go-to birthday set. Sometime you need a little cake; Sometime you need a lot!    Here are the cards I whipped up quicker than you could pull the mayo out of the fridge:

Here is a close up of the “BIG” cake.

blogaugust30.1 Can you see that the middle layer is glittered?  I just used my Two Way Glue Pen and Dazzling Diamonds to get this effect.  I think I will suggest it to Chuck if I ever meet him!

The Christmas Lodge….in my mind!

I come from crafty blood!  My mom is crafter from WAY before Pintrest!   Last year she saw a holiday decoration that she told me about.  I loved the idea!  Apparently, so did she because before I could get out to get the supplies, she whipped it up for me.   AND…..here it is:

and here it is on our garage:

Don’t you wish she was YOUR mom?  Sorry–she is taken!   Thanks,  mom!  LOVE it!

OK–now, on to a card for you.   This is where I am spending Christmas!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOk–Not really!   I am spending Christmas with family and loved ones but in my perfect world, we would all be at this house (with a Mickey wreath above the door)!  And the roof would be covered with Dazzling Diamonds!   I know–you think I have dipped into the eggnog already but, nay, nay!  This is just how I think.  Plus, I have been watching a LOT of the Hallmark Channel recently!

This is the card I sent up to my sister–along with the “happy feet” card that I showed you previously.  This card comes together VERY quickly so think of using it for your cards next year.  Let’s face it; if you haven’t sent a card out yet this year, now is not the time!   But let’s begin our goals for next year!  It is good to have goals.!

Here’s wishing you “and yours” a wonderful holiday….no matter WHERE you celebrate!

Supplies:  Christmas Lodge, Woodgrain Embossing Folder, Big Shot, Crumb Cake Ink, Crumb Cake CS, Vanilla CS, Dazzling Diamonds

I would say, Clean & Simple!

Today’s card comes from the Clean & Simple sketch this week (http://cleanandsimplestamping.blogspot.com/). I love this blog and appreciate the nudge it gives me when I am brain dead! When I saw this sketch

I knew just what I was going to do with it. I love the owl image from the Warmest of Wishes Hostess set…and it was time to pull it out!
Here is the card I am using for some thank yous this month:

Yup–had to pull out the StampAMaJig for this one but it was worth it! (Did you ever notice how 2 owls can line up without a SAMJ but as soon as you add that third one—fagitaboutit!). I used Tangerine Tango ink and paper along with Whisper White and Basic Black CS. I colored in the little eyes with Lucky Limade. (Did a little owl research and 9 out of 10 owls have Limeade colored eyes!). In the end, I think it IS Clean & Simple!
