Sometime You Need a Little Cake; Sometime You Need A Lot!

Standard

You know it is true!  Sometimes a bite of cake or two will do.  Sometimes you need the whole thing!   What is the best cake you ever ate?   I know this is crazy but the best cake I can recall would have to be from the church fair last year.  It had a tag on it, “Chuck’s Famous Mayonnaise Cake”.

I was very intrigued.  Was Chuck famous but a bad baker?   Was Chuck famous because mayonnaise seems like a weird thing to put into a cake?  OR–was this cake truly that memorable that it earned the “famous”.   The woman at the bake table told me he makes it every year.   One would think if it was bad, he would stop early on.  SO–I bought it.   SO good—yes, I dare say FAMOUS!!!!

I did a little looking around after the fact (got to love Google) and found out that Mayonnaise Cakes became popular during the war…”which war?,” you ask?  Well not anything recent.  NOW people just think mayonnaise is a weird thing to put in a cake.

In any case, there are recipes out there to be had.  Next time you need a cake, I recommend you try one!   Trust me, and Chuck!  You will need more than just a bite or two.

Leave me a comment about your favorite cake and I will send you a card!

Now–I had a little time to do some quick stamping the other day.  I pulled out my Make A Cake Stamp set.   I haven’t used this cute set in a while.  It is perfect for a quick, go-to birthday set. Sometime you need a little cake; Sometime you need a lot!    Here are the cards I whipped up quicker than you could pull the mayo out of the fridge:

Here is a close up of the “BIG” cake.

blogaugust30.1 Can you see that the middle layer is glittered?  I just used my Two Way Glue Pen and Dazzling Diamonds to get this effect.  I think I will suggest it to Chuck if I ever meet him!

Well, “Birthday Week” is officially over here.  It started last Sunday and concluded yesterday.  (For those of you counting–I KNOW that is only 6 days and a week is 7 days—but when the party is over—the party is over!).  We all celebrated our birthdays this week and some of the highlights included the One Direction (“1D” if you are cool!) book, a promise of a desk, a cell phone (!), and a bunch of lame stuff for Steve.   Sorry—but you have heard the phrase, “I can’t please everyone, and today is your day!”.   I will come up with something fantastic for Father’s Day….

Anyhow–I know my cake! After THIS week, I think   you KNOW I know my cake! We had Hanaford Chocolate Cake, Wright’s Dariy Vanilla Cake, Wright’s Dairy Radio Bars and “Buddy Valastro’s vanilla Cake” (which was the biggest hit!).  After all this cake,  I can tell you that this offer that Stampin’ Up! has for the month of June is a SWEET deal!!!  I have been loving this stamp set since I got it.  Lots of fun things to do with it.  I would show you photos but I am saving them for my OPEN HOUSE next Saturday–June 16th from 10 am -1 pm.

You can get all the details and RSVP here.

This is no ordinary Open House….well, for starters….it isn’t even in the house—It is in the garage!  Secondly, I have 100’s of items to sell!  I have retired stamp sets, papers, ribbons, accessories, and Big Shot “stuff”!  AND –when you purchase something from my “store”, you will get the same amount FREE (plus tax and shipping) from the NEW CATALOG!!!!  You don’t want to miss this!!

I also have a couple fun make and takes planned for you so be sure to RSVP for this event so that I will have enough materials ready for you.  Don’t forget your cameras–I have lots of samples (or WILL by then!).

Hope you can make it….and hope you considering “Taking the Cake”!!

What DO conductors do?

Standard

Last night, I had the opportunity to go to THe Boston Pops City of Champions series.  Now–If you are a New England fan, you know that this might have been good in theory when they came up with this idea 6 months ago but now, well, it is a  City of …..well…not really sure but I don’t think “Champions” is the word to use.   ANYhow–I have apparently been to Symphony Hall once (according to my husband) but didn’t really remember it–(Everything is new again with this middle aged brain!).  THIS I will remember!   During the Pops concerts, they have little cafe tables set up so it is more casual than the symphony.  We had great seats and were about 50 feet away from Keith Lockhart!  No kidding!  Even saw him sweat!   Because of the theme of the show, they showed lots of clips of NE sports thru the years and brought out some big wig local athletes and other famous ppl (Andre Tippitt, Mike Barnacle, a bunch of local olympians, etc).  Well, at the end, they bring out Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots,  to conduct the final song.   My husband has always asked what, exactly, does the conductor do and do you REALLY need him?  I am fairly certain the answer to that is YES—you need him but my experience with conductors was getting detention for chatting during band practice in 9th grade.  I am pretty sure that Keith does more than that—-but that said, the orchestra sounded great with Bob Kraft conducting….and we know he is no conductor—so again, I ask, what DOES a conductor do??

Ok–that had nothing to do with today’s card…I don’t even know how to tie it in.  So I will just show you the card:

Yesterday was my sister’s 50th(!) birthday!!  Holy Cow!  Somehow when it was my OLDEST sister’s 50th birthday last year, I wasn’t as disturbed!  But yesterday, I just kept thinking, “I’m next!”!  I still have a couple of years but, man, I AM next!  Yikes!  Well, I hope that Kathleen had a birthday as perfect as she is!  (She IS the practically perfect one….but we love her none the less!)   This was the card I sent her.  Hope she liked it.   It was based on this sketch  from the Clean & Simple blog.   I didn’t stray too far as you can see.  I used a new stamp set that will be available in just 8 short days!!!  And that Designer paper—Available in 8 short days too!!  and the greeting….and the framelet to cut the greeting—all in 8 short days!!!!    (You get the idea!  Hope you can make my Catalog Kick off–On June 16th.  Check out the details here.
