Sometime You Need a Little Cake; Sometime You Need A Lot!

Standard

You know it is true!  Sometimes a bite of cake or two will do.  Sometimes you need the whole thing!   What is the best cake you ever ate?   I know this is crazy but the best cake I can recall would have to be from the church fair last year.  It had a tag on it, “Chuck’s Famous Mayonnaise Cake”.

I was very intrigued.  Was Chuck famous but a bad baker?   Was Chuck famous because mayonnaise seems like a weird thing to put into a cake?  OR–was this cake truly that memorable that it earned the “famous”.   The woman at the bake table told me he makes it every year.   One would think if it was bad, he would stop early on.  SO–I bought it.   SO good—yes, I dare say FAMOUS!!!!

I did a little looking around after the fact (got to love Google) and found out that Mayonnaise Cakes became popular during the war…”which war?,” you ask?  Well not anything recent.  NOW people just think mayonnaise is a weird thing to put in a cake.

In any case, there are recipes out there to be had.  Next time you need a cake, I recommend you try one!   Trust me, and Chuck!  You will need more than just a bite or two.

Leave me a comment about your favorite cake and I will send you a card!

Now–I had a little time to do some quick stamping the other day.  I pulled out my Make A Cake Stamp set.   I haven’t used this cute set in a while.  It is perfect for a quick, go-to birthday set. Sometime you need a little cake; Sometime you need a lot!    Here are the cards I whipped up quicker than you could pull the mayo out of the fridge:

Here is a close up of the “BIG” cake.

What DO conductors do?

Standard

Last night, I had the opportunity to go to THe Boston Pops City of Champions series.  Now–If you are a New England fan, you know that this might have been good in theory when they came up with this idea 6 months ago but now, well, it is a  City of …..well…not really sure but I don’t think “Champions” is the word to use.   ANYhow–I have apparently been to Symphony Hall once (according to my husband) but didn’t really remember it–(Everything is new again with this middle aged brain!).  THIS I will remember!   During the Pops concerts, they have little cafe tables set up so it is more casual than the symphony.  We had great seats and were about 50 feet away from Keith Lockhart!  No kidding!  Even saw him sweat!   Because of the theme of the show, they showed lots of clips of NE sports thru the years and brought out some big wig local athletes and other famous ppl (Andre Tippitt, Mike Barnacle, a bunch of local olympians, etc).  Well, at the end, they bring out Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots,  to conduct the final song.   My husband has always asked what, exactly, does the conductor do and do you REALLY need him?  I am fairly certain the answer to that is YES—you need him but my experience with conductors was getting detention for chatting during band practice in 9th grade.  I am pretty sure that Keith does more than that—-but that said, the orchestra sounded great with Bob Kraft conducting….and we know he is no conductor—so again, I ask, what DOES a conductor do??

Ok–that had nothing to do with today’s card…I don’t even know how to tie it in.  So I will just show you the card:

Yesterday was my sister’s 50th(!) birthday!!  Holy Cow!  Somehow when it was my OLDEST sister’s 50th birthday last year, I wasn’t as disturbed!  But yesterday, I just kept thinking, “I’m next!”!  I still have a couple of years but, man, I AM next!  Yikes!  Well, I hope that Kathleen had a birthday as perfect as she is!  (She IS the practically perfect one….but we love her none the less!)   This was the card I sent her.  Hope she liked it.   It was based on this sketch  from the Clean & Simple blog.   I didn’t stray too far as you can see.  I used a new stamp set that will be available in just 8 short days!!!  And that Designer paper—Available in 8 short days too!!  and the greeting….and the framelet to cut the greeting—all in 8 short days!!!!    (You get the idea!  Hope you can make my Catalog Kick off–On June 16th.  Check out the details here.

Sweet Valentines

Standard

When I was at my Stampin’ Up! convention recently, my friend, Kim Huffman (Hey Kim!) was swapping these adorable Valentines. Her’s were a little more blinged up than mine but I took her idea and ran with it.  I made these little favors for a class I held recently.   It might be tough to tell but they are basically like a match book.   I was thinking that once upon a time, you got matches at every wedding you went to.  Remember that?  (Remember those fake cigarettes we used to have as kids—the ones that tasted like sweet chalk?  Boy–how times have changed, eh?)   Well, now that you NEVER get matches at weddings, wouldn’t these little guys be a cute favor at a wedding.  Just saying….

(All products from Stampin’ Up!)

Cardstock:  Whisper White and Real Red

Big Shot Shtuff:  Perfec Polka Dots Folder

Spelin Duznt Kount!

Standard
I once had a shirt that said that. I think I was about 12 years old. (I shows up occassionally in some ghastly slides from vacations in the 70s!). Anyhow, I am a poor speller from WAY back. Sometimes it is so bad that my spell check says, “Lady, you are on your own with THIS one! Good Luck!”

Well, I had to mess the spelling on today’s card a bit so it would fit. I BELIEVE you should really spell “yeah” with an “h” at the end…..but there was no room for that….so what if you spell it “yea”–doens’t that still make the same sound? Regardless, here is the card:

This is a card I made for my friend and fellow demonstrator, Sandy (Hey Sandy–Hope the mail already came–otherwise don’t look!).  She is FINALLY retiring and I am so happy for her!  I am SO happy for her, in fact, that I pulled out my StampAMaJig and used it (alot) on this card.   The way I talk about my SAMJ you would think I hate it.  It is the opposite, in fact.  I LOVE it!!—there is NO way that row of….whatever those things are could be even close to straight without my trusty SAMJ!  Enjoy!
