Everyone Has Their Own Style!

Everyone has their own style.  We are reminded of that every day when we we see things we love or things that make us go, ” Huh?”  (hopefully just in our heads!).  Did you ever see a house painted a color that a  house paint just shouldn’t be sold in?     That is how you know, EVERYONE has their own style!  (Altho recent posts on Facebook suggest that it is not necessarily a “style” so much as it is we just don’t all SEE the same colors!…Next time you are saying, “Huh?”, consider it might not really be that person’s fault!)

In any case, this past month, my club members created cards using the Sheer Perfection Vellum paper that is currently being offered FREE during Sale A Bration with an order of $50 or more.   The paper is this fantastic thick-ish printed vellum paper that comes in 12 patterns (2  6×6 sheets of each)!   I wanted everyone to be able to create a card that was “them” so I cut up a bunch of patterns and let them choose whichever pattern “spoke” to them. They then used our Stampin’ Write markers and colored on the back side of the vellum.  Here are the results from my clubs this past weekend:

So what is YOUR style?  Which pattern would you pick?  As it turns out, you don’t have to pick!  You can get all 12 patterns in one package of this fantastic paper.  AND–when you cut it up to this size (2 x 2), you get 216 little squares to create as you will.  That is a LOT of cards!!   You must act quickly, though as  Sale  A Bration ends tomorrow night!!   You can go on line here and order right now .

Scrap Class–Calling all Scrappers!

 Hey Scrappers!

Check out one of the two layouts we are doing at my scrap class next week:

One of my regular scrappers asked me for a birthday layout and this one seems to fit the bill.  I was inspired by a layout I saw by Kay Kaltoff and adjust it to work with the wonderful Retro Fresh DSP.

If you are interested in coming to the class, check out the details here.

If you are interested in getting supplies to make your own pages, happy to help you out as well.  Click Here.

Sometime You Need a Little Cake; Sometime You Need A Lot!

You know it is true!  Sometimes a bite of cake or two will do.  Sometimes you need the whole thing!   What is the best cake you ever ate?   I know this is crazy but the best cake I can recall would have to be from the church fair last year.  It had a tag on it, “Chuck’s Famous Mayonnaise Cake”.

I was very intrigued.  Was Chuck famous but a bad baker?   Was Chuck famous because mayonnaise seems like a weird thing to put into a cake?  OR–was this cake truly that memorable that it earned the “famous”.   The woman at the bake table told me he makes it every year.   One would think if it was bad, he would stop early on.  SO–I bought it.   SO good—yes, I dare say FAMOUS!!!!

I did a little looking around after the fact (got to love Google) and found out that Mayonnaise Cakes became popular during the war…”which war?,” you ask?  Well not anything recent.  NOW people just think mayonnaise is a weird thing to put in a cake.

In any case, there are recipes out there to be had.  Next time you need a cake, I recommend you try one!   Trust me, and Chuck!  You will need more than just a bite or two.

Leave me a comment about your favorite cake and I will send you a card!

Now–I had a little time to do some quick stamping the other day.  I pulled out my Make A Cake Stamp set.   I haven’t used this cute set in a while.  It is perfect for a quick, go-to birthday set. Sometime you need a little cake; Sometime you need a lot!    Here are the cards I whipped up quicker than you could pull the mayo out of the fridge:

Here is a close up of the “BIG” cake.

blogaugust30.1 Can you see that the middle layer is glittered?  I just used my Two Way Glue Pen and Dazzling Diamonds to get this effect.  I think I will suggest it to Chuck if I ever meet him!

Stamp Set: Make  A Cake

Ink and Paper:  Island Indigo, Whisper White, Gingham Garden

Other:  Big Shot, Perfect Polka Dots, Blender Pen, 2 Way Glue, Dazzling Diamonds, 2 1/2 ” Circle Punch, Baker’s Twine, Candy Dots, Mayonnaise…..KIDDING!!

A Rosette by any name…..

Would be as cute!   Ok–I took some liberties with that quote there but lookie what I did with Stampin’ Up!’s  Designer Rosette Die for the Big Shot:

I love Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Rosette Die for the Big Shot!  When I first saw it I wasn’t sure I needed it…..Silly ME!   I have been having a ball playing with all it can do!   Rosettes, “flowers”, fences, banners, pins, cards, etc, etc, etc!

I made this using a square shadow box I found recently.  Most shadow boxes come with several “layers” .  It was SO easy to attach some Fan Fair Designer Paper (#126918 $9.95) to each of the “layers”.   An Antique brad (117273 $5.95) was the perfect center.  I used Tombow Multipurpose Glue (LOVE that stuff!) as it is great for holding anything with weight….well, within reason!   I let it dry flat and then sat it up to admire it.

There you have it~~Some unique and cheap home decor!

Feel free to give me a holler for any supplies or questions.

I have had some “issues” with chipmunks this past year.  If you live in New England, that probably does not come as a surprise to you!  Don’t get me wrong~~they ARE adorable….and Chip and Dale are high on my list of favorite characters…..but when they eat ALL of the bird seeds AND the people food (tomatoes, cukes, beans, etc) AND then the FLOWERS–that is about all I can handle!  Last year I tried a variety of “diversion” tactics….some worked….but had other side effects….most  tactics jus simply did not work!

Well, we are about to plant our garden.   I know that I am 3 weeks too late but for us, that is 2 weeks early!   I mentioned to my family how I was worried about what we could do to keep the chipmunks from eating the garden this year.   Well, Allie, my only niece chimes in, “Marigolds–plant Marigolds–they don’t like the smell and they stay away!”.   SO, while I was purchasing some flowers this year, I picked up a punch of marigolds to try out Allie’s theory.  When I got home, I placed –didn’t plant just in case it didn’t work– a bunch of marigolds at the base of the bird feeder.   That has been a favorite place of theirs to mock me.  Well, that was about a week ago and so far, I have only seen ONE chipmunk attempt to climb the pole to get to the bird feeder.   In Allie’s defense, he looked like he had allergies and probably couldn’t smell anything!  So–I think I am actually going to PLANT those Marigolds and line my vegetable garden with them too!  Thanks, Allie!

Ok–on to today’s sample:

I am DESPERATELY waiting for my order of new goodies to come in so I can start working on samples for my Catalog Kick Off Open House (Buy One Get One FREE) on June 16th (See here for details).   BUT–I was able to get some new things ahead of time –and for FREE–Thank YOU , Stampin’Up!.   This card features Patio Party (#126916) Designer Paper.  This pack of paper uses some of the new In Colors–Midnight Muse, Primrose Petals and Summer Starfish  Starfruit.  Summer Starfruit is by far the most different color and because of that, I love it.  It takes a little more to match it up with other colors but when you do match it well, it is a stunning combo!  Because I am not an artist, I start with those that know.   If the artist at SU  tell me that Midnight Muse matches Summer Starfruit, I listen.  And, they were RIGHT!

See what I mean?

You may not recognize this as the Patio Party Paper because you have never seen this side of it!  Stampin’ Up!’s designer paper is double-sided and the OTHER side of this —-A-DOR–A-BLE!!  It is full of cute cupcakes….so you are not likely to see this side often–although it is pretty in its own right.  The stamped images along the side are actually the Posy Party Wheel (in Midnight Muse) accented with a little Baja Breeze.  Finally, the piece de resistance (Is that how you spell that??) is the Paper Daisies.  You get 40 of these cuties per package for only $6.95!  They come in 4 different sizes (10 of each).  FUN!

Happy Tuesday!
